The CPED Program of the Year designation is awarded to EdD programs that are distinctive and innovative, and that serve as model programs for other CPED member institutions.
The Baylor EdD online program, in the SOE’s Department of Curriculum & Instruction, was commended by CPED for its overall innovation, social justice pursuits, diversity of faculty and students, and for preparing scholarly practitioners to lead change initiatives that promote equity. The EdD online in Learning and Organizational Change was designed to empower experienced professionals and industry leaders to shape learning experiences in any setting. This unique program includes a combination of interactive and asynchronous coursework, collaborative group activities, live online sessions, and yearly on-campus immersion experiences.

“When the online EdD program launched in 2018, we expected a cohort size of 15 education professionals. In reality, 51 students joined us from a variety of fields including health care, military, education, and human resources,” said Dr. Laila Sanguras, graduate program director of the EdD-LOC. “The professional, racial, and generational diversity of our students has created a community of scholars committed to understanding the complexities of their professional landscapes — and one another. We are proud to have built an innovative, accessible doctoral program and are honored by these recognitions.”

The online EdD in Learning and Organizational Change has grown quickly to become Baylor University’s largest graduate program and is lauded by its students and graduates for the connectedness and community that Baylor provides for online students.

“This distinguished program has been designed to equip professionals with expertise in learning foundations and organizational change so that they can influence growth and champion systemic change across institutions, government agencies, businesses, and private organizations,” said Dr. Shanna Hagan-Burke, dean of the Baylor School of Education. “These recognitions are testament to the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our faculty and staff and their pioneering approach to building a premier professional education program.”
