Programs for Academic Credit

Baylor Education in Italy

2-week graduate program
Master’s and doctoral students explore Italian universities, primary and secondary schools, and early childhood learning environments — including programs in the Montessori, Pestalozzi, and Reggio Emilia traditions.

Interns in Australia

4-week program for seniors
As part of their senior-year experience, students spend three weeks teaching in the Camp Hill area of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Each Baylor student teaches in a specific classroom, learning the classroom and school culture. Students spend weekends and the fourth week traveling.

Baylor Interns and Emerging Education Scholars in England

4-week program for seniors or graduate students
Through hands-on engagement in English partnership schools, students compare and contrast the U.K. and U.S. educational systems while developing and teaching lessons, conducting research, and collaborating with educators there. Weekends and the fourth week are open for traveling.

Educational Psychology in Costa Rica

Graduate student program
Accompanied by faculty, graduate students travel to southern Costa Rica on the Osa Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. Students study, learn, and work in different cultural settings, experiencing an area of the world seldomly visited by outsiders and studying the educational and cultural systems there.

Liverpool Hope Semester Abroad

Fall or Spring for first- and second-year undergraduate students
First-year or sophomore students can be truly immersed in another culture by spending a full semester at Liverpool Hope University, a Christian institution offering a tuition-exchange program for School of Education students. Baylor academic advisors guide students in selecting courses that fit within their degree plan.

“The opportunity for global experiences is fundamental to the Baylor student experience as they contemplate the ways in which they might impact the world. Teaching and engaging with schools in other countries offers an insider view that most travelers will never experience, instantly expanding a student’s notions of how learning happens.”
Dr. Shanna Hagan-Burke, SOE Dean

Non-Credit Programs

Costa Rica Spring Break

Through this service program with Baylor Missions, Baylor students are based in San Jose, Costa Rica, working with the students at El Colegio Técnico in Heredia and helping them with English language skills. Volunteering in Costa Rican schools is an enriching experience for education majors, although the trip is open to all Baylor students.

Kenya Naomi’s Village

Naomi’s Village is a children’s home and school outside of Maai Mahiu, Kenya, and includes a preschool and K-12 academy. It was founded in 2011 by Dr. Bob and Julie Mendonsa, both Baylor alumni. Julie is a School of Education graduate and educator, and Bob is a physician. The Baylor education team will work with students and teachers, plus explore research opportunities.
